Indonesian Tea Culture
Indonesia is one of the largest producers and exporters of black tea and green tea in the world, although almost none of the tea is considered specialty tea. More than ten percent of the world's black tea exports come from Indonesia. Much of the green tea grown in Indonesia is exported to Japan.
Indonesia was also one of the first countries where tea was grown, and was the second country, after China, where tea was grown by Europeans. It was the Dutch who first grew tea here in the 1600's, and it was the Dutch who first introduced Indonesian tea to the European market.
